OUR STANDARDS
Health and Safety
Our commitment to the people who clean your buildings and the people who work in them. Policy effective October 17, 2026, reviewed every year.
Our commitment
CNF Janitors is committed to the health and safety of every person who works for us and every person in the buildings we clean. No job is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. We provide a safe and healthy workplace, the training and equipment to work safely, and a system for finding and fixing hazards before anyone is hurt. Management is responsible for our health and safety program and gives it the time and resources it needs; every supervisor, worker and subcontractor shares that responsibility.
How we meet it
Trained people
- Every cleaner completes a company safety orientation and WHMIS 2015 training before starting work, refreshed at least once a year and whenever new products are introduced.
- Each worker gets a site-specific orientation for every building: exits, alarms, keys and access, where the Safety Data Sheets are kept, and the client's own site rules.
- Workers are trained on floor machines, ladders and other equipment before using them.
Safe products and equipment
- We use only approved products, in labelled containers, diluted exactly as directed, and never mixed. A current Safety Data Sheet is kept for every product we supply.
- We provide the gloves, eye protection and other protective equipment each task needs, at no cost to our workers.
- Wet floor signs go down before mopping and stay until the floor is dry. Equipment is checked before use and taken out of service if damaged.
Working alone and after hours
- Many of our cleaners work alone or outside business hours. Every visit is checked in and out, and if a worker has not checked out when expected, the office contacts them and follows up.
- Our workers secure your premises as you require, never admit anyone who is not authorized, and leave and call for help if a situation feels unsafe.
Reporting and follow-up
- Every hazard, incident, injury and near miss is reported to our office the same shift, investigated, and fixed at its cause. We tell the client about anything affecting their building.
- Workers have the right to know, to take part, and to refuse unsafe work, and are protected from reprisal for raising a concern.
A respectful workplace
We do not tolerate workplace violence or harassment, from anyone. Our written Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy and Program sets out how concerns are reported, including to an independent outside contact, and how they are investigated.
Subcontractors held to the same standard
Subcontractors working at CNF sites meet the same standards, carry their own workers' compensation coverage or clearance, train their own workers, and report incidents to us the same day.
Compliance and coverage
- Ontario: Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, including WHMIS. WSIB coverage.
- New Brunswick: Occupational Health and Safety Act and General Regulation 91-191. WorkSafeNB coverage.
- Yukon: Workers' Safety and Compensation Act and its regulations, for work in the territory.
- Each client's own site safety rules, which we follow in addition to our own.
Our policies are reviewed at least once a year, posted for every worker in the CNF Employee Portal, and given to each worker at orientation. See also our Green Cleaning Policy.
Documents for clients and facility managers
We can provide our Health and Safety Policy, WSIB or WorkSafeNB clearance certificate, certificate of insurance, and Safety Data Sheets for any site on request: support@cnfjanitors.ca or (548) 394-3737.
